    Tips

Tips to Scan QR Code from Photo or Screenshot

Most images scan instantly. When one does not, one of these small fixes usually solves it.

    • Crop close, but keep a margin

A code that fills most of the image reads best. Leave a thin white border around it; the scanner adds one automatically, but a real margin is even better.

    • Use the sharpest copy

Screenshots are usually perfect. Photos taken at an angle, in motion, or through glass may be too soft; retake them straight on.

    • Avoid glare and shadows

Reflections on glossy paper or screens can hide whole modules. Tilt the page or turn off a lamp before taking the photo.

    • Low resolution? Zoom first

Tiny codes in large photos are hard to find. Zoom in, take a new screenshot of just the code, and scan that.

How to Scan QR Code from Image

    1. Select Choose image above, drag a file onto the scanner, or paste an image with Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac).
    2. On a phone, pick a photo or screenshot from your gallery. On a computer, choose a PNG, JPEG, or any other image file.
    3. Wait a moment while the code is decoded in your browser.
    4. Check the result, then open the link, copy the text, or save the contact. Nothing opens until you choose to.

That is all it takes to use this QR code scanner from image files instead of a live camera. If the code is in front of you on paper, the QR code scanner with camera on the home page is faster.

On a phone, this page works as a QR code scanner from gallery photos. On iPhone and iPad,Choose image opens a menu where you can pick Photo Libraryto select a saved picture or screenshot. On Android, the picker usually shows your gallery or recent photos, depending on the phone. Pick the image and the scanner reads it straight away, whether you took the photo a minute ago or saved it months back.

Scan QR Code from Screenshot on Windows and Mac

When a code appears on your computer screen, in an email, a PDF ticket, or a web page, you do not need your phone. Capture it and paste it straight into the scanner:

    • Windows: press Win+Shift+S, select the code, then press Ctrl+V on this page.
    • Mac: press ⌘+Ctrl+Shift+4, select the code, then press ⌘+V on this page.
    • Saved file: drag the image from your desktop or file manager anywhere onto the scanner.

Read QR Code from Image Online, Privately

Your browser opens the file, draws it onto an invisible canvas, and looks for a QR code, using its built-in barcode detection where available and the open-source jsQR library otherwise. If the first pass finds nothing, the scanner tries again at larger sizes and with an extra white border, which rescues many tightly cropped or tiny codes. Nothing is uploaded, and the picture is discarded when you leave the page. It is a private way to decode QR code online, free and without an account.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I scan a QR code from a screenshot?

Take the screenshot, open this page, and choose the image with Choose image. On a computer you can also paste the screenshot straight from the clipboard with Ctrl+V or Command+V, or drag the file onto the scanner.

Can I scan a QR code from a photo in my gallery?

Yes. On iPhone or Android, select Choose image and pick the photo from your photo library or gallery. Pictures and screenshots you saved weeks ago work just as well as new ones.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The image is opened and decoded by your browser on your own device. It is never sent anywhere, and it is forgotten as soon as you close or reload the page.

    Which image formats work?

Any format your browser can display, including PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and SVG. HEIC photos from iPhones open in Safari; in other browsers, export them as JPEG first. Files up to 25 MB are accepted.

Why does it say no QR code was found?

The code may be too small, blurry, cut off, or distorted. Crop the image closer to the code, use a sharper copy, or take a straight-on photo with the whole code and a little margin visible.

Can it read several QR codes in one image?

It returns one code per scan. If an image contains several, crop it around the one you need and scan again.

Can I decode a QR code online for free?

Yes. This QR code image scanner is free, with no account, watermark, or scan limit, and every result shows the full decoded content of the code.
