What we do not collect
- No account details. There is no sign-up, so we have no name, email address, or password for you.
- No cookies. QR Code Scanner sets no cookies, ours or anyone else's.
- No analytics, advertising, or tracking pixels. The site loads no third-party scripts. Fonts and icons are bundled with the site and served alongside its own files.
How scanning works
QR codes are decoded entirely in your browser, using its built-in barcode reader (BarcodeDetector) where available, or jsQR, an open-source decoder that runs in a Web Worker on your device.
- Camera: the video is processed frame by frame in memory and then discarded. It is never recorded, saved, or uploaded.
- Images: images you choose, drop, or paste are read locally and never uploaded.
- Results: the decoded content is never sent to us. It is shown on the page and, if history is on, saved in your browser as described below. Contact card (
.vcf) and calendar (.ics) files are created in your browser and saved straight to your device.
Camera access
The scanner asks for camera permission only when you press Start camera. The camera stops when you press Stop camera, switch toImage, hide the tab, or leave the page. You can revoke the permission at any time in your browser's site settings.
Clipboard
The scanner reads your clipboard only when you press Paste image or paste on the page (Ctrl+V or ⌘+V), and only to look for an image to scan. It writes to your clipboard only when you press a Copy button, such asCopy password.
What is stored on your device
The site keeps three entries in your browser's localStorage. They never leave your browser, and we cannot read them.
theme: your light or dark preference.qr-scanner:history-enabled: whether Remember scans on this device is on or off. It is on by default.qr-scanner:history: up to 20 of your most recent scan results, saved as text with the time of each scan.
Hosting
QR Code Scanner is a set of static files served by a hosting provider and content delivery network. Like any web server, it may process standard request data, such as your IP address, user agent, the requested URL, the time, and the referring page, in short-lived logs to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use these logs to profile anyone, and they never include what you scan.
Links and other services
Some actions take you away from this site. From that point, the other party's own privacy policy applies.
- Links you open from a scan. Open link opens the page in a new tab with
noopener, noreferrer, and ano-referrerpolicy, so the destination does not learn which page you came from. - Locations. Open in maps shows the coordinates on OpenStreetMap, which receives them only when you select it.
- Email, phone, and text message actions. These hand the details to the app on your device that handles
mailto:,tel:, orsms:links. - Share buttons. The buttons in the footer are plain links to WhatsApp, X, Facebook, Telegram, and Reddit. Nothing loads from those services until you click one.
Emailing us
If you email support@qrcodescanner.dev, we receive your email address and your message and use them only to reply. We keep them as long as needed for the conversation. Please do not send passwords or the content of sensitive QR codes.
Children
QR Code Scanner is for a general audience. It does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Because the scanner does not send us personal data, there is usually nothing for us to access, correct, or delete. Your settings and history live on your device, and you can remove them at any time as described above. If you have a question, or a request about an email you sent us, contact us.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. The Terms of Use cover how the service may be used.
